Project cargo for Project ONE can count on Antwerp expertise

The construction of Project ONE by INEOS at the port is a unique project on a unique scale. The scope of this “once in a generation” yard is exceptional and poses enormous logistical challenges. The expertise of Antwerp's service providers in general cargo logistics comes in handy. Moreover, the project creates unique collaborations between many different companies in the port.

Gosselin as general contractor for Project ONE

For the logistics side of Project ONE, INEOS is counting on the expertise of Gosselin, a logistics player that has grown thanks to relocation transports. Gosselin acts as the control tower for the project and coordinates the logistics for the construction site: from the supply and removal of materials, just-in-time movements on the site itself, assembly, inspection and value-added activities.

Unique collaborations in Port of Antwerp-Bruges

Logistics for Project ONE is unique because of its scale and speed. To have sufficient capacity and expertise, it brings together various players in the logistics sector for an unprecedented collaboration in Port of Antwerp-Bruges. For example, PSA Breakbulk is responsible for the transshipment of goods by sea transport. Several modules are built overseas and then brought to the shipyard in their entirety. In addition to unloading these large pieces, PSA Breakbulk also stocks a lot of material that does not go directly to the shipyard. Felbermayr and Sarens are also involved in the shipments with their specialized equipment.

The collaboration transcends the personal interest of one company. That is something the port community at large can be proud of.

Impressive shipments on schedule

Back in June, Gosselin Group oversaw the arrival of the first two heavy-lifts, on the PSA Breakbulk Project Cargo Ecosystem terminal at the Churchilldock. They were a 591-ton splitter and a 347-ton demethanizer. BigLift Shipping's MV Happy Star unloaded the two units onto a 32-axle modular transporter from Felbermayr. That transported both units to a setup at Sarens.

This was followed in August and September by the transport of five giant bullet tanks of 570 tons each, which will serve for gas processing. Deugro organized the sea transport with the vessel MV Jumbo Fairplayer and brought the pieces to the PSA Breakbulk Terminal. With the arrival of other components such as modules and a splitter in October, the impressive project cargo now continues to arrive.

Proud of the expertise of Antwerp Breakbulk

A mega-project like Project ONE involves a lot of complex shipping. The successful course of the project demonstrates Antwerp's expertise in the breakbulk sector. A specialty that clearly distinguishes Port of Antwerp-Bruges from other world ports.

To support the large-scale port and industrial development of Port of Antwerp-Bruges, our Project Cargo Ecosystem offers a unique setup of technical expertise, specialized equipment and the necessary space.

Once in a generation

Project ONE is the state-of-the-art ethane cracker that INEOS is building in Antwerp. That plant will produce 1450 kilotons of ethylene annually, a building block for numerous applications such as automotive parts, medical devices and renewable energy solutions. In the process, it will produce half as much CO2 as the 10 percent least polluting ethane crackers already in place.

Project ONE will create new investments and collaborations, sustainable economic growth and additional jobs. In addition to 300 permanent jobs when the site is operational, INEOS is counting on another 150 permanent contractors. In addition, they estimate that each Project ONE job will create five jobs at other companies.
