Who are we?

At the Antwerp-Bruges Port Authority, you will be part of a global port that serves the needs of people, the climate and the economy. But what exactly do we do and how do aim to achieve that? Read here to find out!

Antwerp-Bruges Port Authority

The Antwerp-Bruges Port Authority operates the port of Antwerp and Zeebrugge, which is the second biggest port in Europe and the driving force of Flanders' economy.

Almost everything you use in your everyday life comes to you via the port. So whether it's your new smartphone, an elegant dress or a tasty bit of fruit, they probably came to Belgium in a container (or refrigerated container). Did you know that we are the world's biggest port for the shipment of cars? The entire range of raw materials for industry are also transported via the port to their final destination. The chemical cluster in Antwerp is the largest in Europe and the most varied in the world. The chemical industry processes raw materials to produce medicines, plastics or electronics. Many of these products are then re-exported via the port.

We are one port with two locations that are home to over 1,400 businesses. Every day, around 1,800 colleagues from Antwerp and Zeebrugge work closely together to ensure that all of the port's operations run smoothly. Because together is the way we do it.

You will shape the port of tomorrow and boost your own professional development. Count on a job full of variety, in which you will face new challenges every time.

What do we do?

You can divide the tasks of the Port Authority into four roles:

  • Landlord

The Port Authority owns the land in the port and leases it out to firms wishing to establish themselves in the port.

  • Operator

The Port Authority maintains the port infrastructure and provides safe and smooth shipping management. We operate the locks and bridges or navigation with tugs. We want to do this better and better, but also more sustainably.

  • Regulator

The Port Authority makes clear rules and arrangements for the port area. In this way, everyone knows what can and cannot be done and we provide a safe port.

  • Community Builder

We work towards promoting the port at home and abroad. We engage with players inside and outside the port in order to make the port area more efficient, safe and sustainable for everyone.

That varied list of tasks is what makes us a unique company with such a large number of different jobs! Tug-boat captains, traffic planners, IT specialists, financial experts, Port of the Future Advisors, etc. Few other firms bring together so many different profiles in a single organisation. So it's highly likely that we will have an interesting vacancy that's just up your street!
