Certified Pick up: 1 year and 1 million containers later

One year after the official launch of Certified Pick up (CPu), the platform is playing a key role in Port of Antwerp-Bruges' container traffic. The port's logistics processes have been made more efficient, transparent and secure. What has already been achieved? And what is still in the pipeline?

1 million containers

Since its launch in January 2024, no fewer than 1 058 249 containers have been collected via Certified Pick up. This translates to an average of 3 600 pick-ups per day via truck, barge or train. The platform has nearly 22 000 active users, more than 4 000 companies and operates in 18 different locations. Recently, ATO Antwerp was the last terminal to join, meaning that all terminals in Antwerp now use the platform.

When launching a new platform like Certified Pick up, good support is important. Every day, the support team processes about 5 calls and handles about 20 tickets.

A smarter and safer port

Certified Pick up creates more efficiency and security. Concrete evidence of the impact is the reduction in claims to customs regarding container pick-up. Thanks to improved chain information, high-risk containers can be identified faster. Cooperation with customs, which also further deploys (mobile) scanning technology, makes smuggling drugs through the port significantly more difficult. Although the exact effect on drug smuggling is difficult to measure, the platform helps the federal police with their risk analysis and targeted actions.

Port of Antwerp-Bruges reaches maritime connections around the world, with more than 300 liner services sailing to more than 800 destinations.

What’s next?

In the first quarter of 2025, we will finalise the roadmap drawn up together with the port community. For instance, we will make the user interface more user-friendly and ensure that CPu remains a stable platform without too many modifications.

Integration with IRP (Inbound Release Platform) is also on the agenda. Afterwards, we are working on the implementation of Certified Pick up in Zeebrugge.
