Antwerp Coordination Center (ACC)

In order to guarantee smooth shipping traffic, proper coordination and collaboration between all partners in the nautical chain is crucial. The new Antwerp Coordination Center brings the necessary partners in the nautical chain together in one place.

The new port coordination center will be build by KAAN Architecten, SVR-ARCHITECTS, Groep Van Roey en Van Roey Services.

Initiator(s)

Port of Antwerp-Bruges, Maritime and Coastal Services Agency (MDK)

Duration

07/01/2021 - 31/03/2027

Location

Zandvliet-Berendrecht Lock

Why?

With a total floor area of 8,000m², the new Antwerp Coordination Center will replace the current coordination centre at the Zandvliet-Berendrecht lock. It aims to make the nautical chain run more smoothly by bringing all the key partners in the nautical chain together in one place.

The energy-neutral building emits no CO2 and meets the most stringent requirements in terms of ergonomics, circularity and biodiversity.

  • Ergonomics with optimum use of daylight and regard for air quality, thermal and acoustic comfort.
  • Circularity through water conservation and water reuse, reuse of materials and the use of a materials passport that allows materials to be reused or recycled later.
  • Biodiversity by buffering rainwater and allowing it to infiltrate and not run off through the sewer system, and leaving native trees on the site.

What?

The new coordination center at Zandvliet-Berendrecht lock will be fully operational in the third quarter of 2026. After that, building A will be demolished and the surrounding area will be landscaped. The new building will have the following functions:

  • Common workplace
  • New workspaces for operators of lock complexes
  • Training centre
  • Experience space for business visitors

The old ACC will go under the sledgehammer in the first quarter of 2027. Consequently, the surrounding area will continue to be landscaped.

The new port coordination center will be build by KAAN Architecten, SVR-ARCHITECTS, Groep Van Roey en Van Roey Services.
